Featured in Scaffmag: Halifax’s Iconic Scaffolding Revival

We’re proud to share that Scaffmag featured our scaffolding work in their December 9, 2024 article, “Engineering History: The Scaffolding That’s Redefining Halifax’s Skyline.” You can read the full story here.

Project Highlights at a Glance

  • We revitalised the listed former Halifax Building Society head office, built in 1974 and awarded by RIBA, while honouring its iconic cantilevered design and historic deed-retrieval basement system.

  • Our team replaced half-tonne glass panels with care and precision, installing 20,000 m² of Plettac Metrix System Scaffold, our largest deployment of the system to date.

  • Starting with 73 scaffold design drawings, we adapted to the complexity of the structure and generated 174 refined solutions working alongside Buckley Design Solutions.

  • A 350 m NIKO rail and a 2.5 m scaffold walkway (“sucker machine” system) enabled seamless and secure movement of the massive glass panels.

  • Five apprentices (three based within 15 minutes of site) gained hands-on experience, providing a career-defining opportunity.

  • In partnership with TRAD UK, we used Just-In-Time deliveries and steel decks, reducing emissions and material waste. Proximity (5–20 miles) facilitated efficient logistics.

  • The project was shortlisted as Project of the Year (Major) at the NASC awards, underscoring its innovation and excellence.
