Points Cross is the largest development undertaken by the Guinness Partnership in its 130-year history. The design of the development aims to create a unique sense of place for its future residents and workers. Our team erected over 1000 tons of scaffolding on the project using the Van Thiel System.
The main platforms are placed at floor levels, providing early release of edge protection and access for SFS, window installation, and cladding works with minimal adaptation. Unlike other systems, the Van Thiel system can fully match every floor level without the need for steps.
The scheme transforms a brownfield site, previously a car showroom, into a positive enhancement for the area. The first phase of apartments is 100% affordable and prioritizes public realm, green space, and safe connectivity to the city centre. We encountered several challenges related to the loading of the roof for the installation of the scaffold to facilitate the cladding process in areas where the building roof is stepped. To address this issue, we installed Dessa beams in some locations to bridge over the lower-level roofs. In other areas where the scaffold did not need to reach as high, we erected spreader beams to support the cladding on the top hat section of the building. As the project was situated adjacent to a school, acoustic barriers were installed to mitigate the noise level and minimize any potential disturbance to nearby buildings.
