DECEMBER 2007 - CROSSWAY WINS BUSINESS AWARD
Crossway Scaffolding epitomises what a small to medium enterprise is – the powerhouse of the British economy.
Managing Director Steve Fearnehough set up the company in the 1990s. Since then he has taken what was a good solid business forward.
He looked to develop new markets and recognised the future of Crossway was in partnering and working with Major Contractors, and also Medium and Small firms.
This year the company has consolidated its Yorkshire base and has taken it to the next level by courting companies on the other side of the Pennines. He anticipates the move will double turnover in three years. It has already led to expansion in employment.
Staff numbers have grown to over 50 at the end of 2007.
The judges, including Yorkshire Bank, who sponsored the award category, were impressed by the company’s sure footed financial performance since the takeover.
Appreciating how important SMEs are to the continued prosperity of Calderdale and Bristish Business as a whole they were keen that the first recipient of the award should demonstrate significant and steady growth, innovation and have a route map for the future.
The company showed it had a strong research and development programme in place with a clear matrix for staff development and new product innovation. As well as being an Investor in People the company is aiming to have all employees qualify for the Construction Industry Scaffolders Records Scheme.
